I'm having the same problem in Galveston.Thinking about enclosing the plants with plastic.Both my tomatoes and peppers are being blowed away.

Yeah we had strong winds up this way too last week. Fortunately it's died down for now. I had to build racks to set my containers in to keep them from blowing over.

The winds weren't so strong to break well staked plants and/or strip them of leaves though. If it's that bad and they can't be moved out of the wind, I would make a fence with some t-posts and sun shade to block most of the wind.

Make circles with 5'-6" remesh pieces and wrap with some kind of fabric. Wire the remesh to T posts. Or, get two cattle panels and T-post them up with the plants in between, perpendicular to the prevailing wind.
'Course that won't do much good in a hurricane... ;-)

I have protected my plants from high winds in a strange way, maybe a bit controversial. I purposely plant them closer together than what is recommended. When they mature, they support each other from any direction of strong wind. You might lose an outer branch every now and then, but very rarely.
There is a down side, they are crowded! But it works, dealing with K.C. winds is no simple matter.

Yep, and they "self mulch" too by shading the ground in between.
It was a PITA for me to pick from the middle when I did that.
Couldn't see the rattlers either... ;-)

I agree with Kevin. I use Tomato cages on all my plants. Some think I am crazy but when they get bigger and high winds or Hurricanes come, they hold up great.

Rattlers? None here thankfully. .. but understand. ..
