Ornamental Cabbage and Kale can be easily started from seed. We sow into 288 plug flats then as they size up we bump them up to a 72 tray. These are then transplanted into gallon pots or 8" mum pans.
Be aware that they are prone to insects such as worms and aphids among others pests. Size may be controlled, if desired by Bonzi drenches at 1-2 ppm's.

just went to the northeast greenhouse conference and expo in worcester mass, found a few people that do Ornamental Cabbage Kale plugs. i dont think i will have the time in may or june to sow my own seeds. so if the plugs are not to much at that time, then thats what i will buy..

as for the insects, anyone use marathon 1% "granular systemic insecticide" or some type of top dress application??? i rather not use a foliar spray application...

I grow it and do it by seed, and also sold it for a fall crop in mum pans. Dipel works for caterpillars and a carbaryl dusting (sevin) or spray will handle aphids. Oh God, I hate to see Marathon used to death the way it is now, and released for retail use because it won't be any good for g'house use one of these days because of resistance.
