Jalapeno Pepper Problems, Guy Needs help!..

For the life of me, I canÂt get these things to grow! They form little white flower that look like a pepper could be inside them but then they all fall off 2-3 days after they form??? I have had them since late march and have tried everything! They all have their own 12" pots (there are 5 of them) and I water them really good, either in the morning or in the evening. I have tried leaving them on the covered porch for a few weeks, and I have tried putting them in the sunÂs direct light for 2 weeks. Nothing. A girlfriend of mine bought some plants the same day but lives in the country and hers has tons of peppers and we are doing the same thing!!!

If anyone could help, IÂd really appreciate it.

    Jay,

Marry that gal... I mean right away! She's got the thumb (green) for sure.

jt (or, if everything else fails... ask her for advice!)

How much fertilizer are you using?

Also transplant to 5 gal pots

"Also transplant to 5 gal pots"
...or plant into the ground if you can.

I have some miricle grow powder that i mix with water and use it once every 2 wks as directed. I did use to have 3 of the plants in a 5 gal pot but was told to put them all in their own pots b/c they were robbing each others nutrients???

Might be a pollination issue. Try shaking the plant when it is blooming or dabbing at the flowers with a figner or q-tip.

Stop feeding them, 1 dose of MG is too much

Here is a link that might be useful: Blossom drop

Expand on this please? Is there no Miracle in the Gro? Oh say it isn't so!

miracle grow keeps the plant healthy in a vegetive state. Lush green leaves and such... you will want a little less nitrogen than miracle grow has for better flowering....

MY JALAPENO PEPPERS AREN'T GROWING AT ALL THIS YEAR

I have some of the opposite problems. Most of my Jalapeno plants look pitiful BUT they are loaded with peppers. Even I have to cringe looking at them as they seem to be spindly (if that's a word), no more then 6-8" tall, and have at least 6-8 peppers per plant.

Even odder is I have sweet bell peppers and the plants are so tiny, the peppers are actually almost as big as the plants!!! Since this year is the first for peppers for me, I'm clueless but, pleased I have fruit.

I think I'll try a foliar epsom spray and say a prayer it helps these poor little plants and doesn't affect the fruit bearing.

I agree with Keithaxis, nitrogen will put plants into vegetative state and cause the plant to abort flowers, devoting its energy to leaves and vegetative growth. Stop fertilizing for a while and just use plain water. You'll be fine. When you start re-fertilizing, use less more often. I use about 20% recommended dose about once every 2 weeks, with fish emulsion and 10-60-10 combined. Results are fantastic.

I grow in hydro and grow mostly chiles and my nutrient concentration is 20-30% of what is recommended for chiles.

I grow nice chiles that fruit all year.

About 20 years ago MG offered I think it was $25,000 to anyone that could grow a tomato larger than 7 lb 10 oz ( current world record) After about 10 years they dropped the offer.

There are no world veggie records using MG.

I had some luck with MG's seed starter, a 25% solution of 4-12-4, I had over 660 pods on 1 ea 16" plant, But I didn't harvest one single ripe pod,

10-60-10 in my garden burns my plants.

I believe you have a pollination problem. I had a pepper plant start in a pot in my office at work. It started in a pot containing an agave plant as a result of "composting" pepper seeds from my lunch. It produced flowers which fell off in a couple days and did not produce peppers. I realized there are no bugs in the building (at least of the pollinator variety- flys, bees, butterflies) to pollinate the flowers.

I grabbed a paperclip, straightened it out and started manually pollinating. I gently move the clip inside the flower touching pistol and stymen while holding my hand under the flower to catch falling pollin. I rub the clip in the pollin on my hand and repeat on the next flower.

I am now enjoying homegrown peppers grown on my desk at lunch.

I added epsom salt and water in a spray bottle. All my pepper plants have started blooming like crazy. Good Luck!

I continue to get black spots where leaves split from the stalk, and yellowing/dying and falling off of leaves from the stalk. I planted in individual 12 inch pots, using MG potting soil. After reading this forum, it seems as though I'm inactively over-fertilizing by having them in the potting soil. At very least, I hope that's my problem. I'm having this problem with my 'garden salsa' plants as well as my jalapenos. Please help...I need fresh peppers!!!
