It can be anything from a plastic bag to a very large see through plastic storage bin, to a greenhouse. I use a lot of 2 liter soda bottles to cover woody cuttings in pots. A large clear storage bin is very handy...use it upside down..set the pots of cuttings on the lid...spray the inside with water (you can use 1/4 t. baking soda and a few drops of dish soap to keep down mold) and cover with the bottom. Keep in light, but not direct sunlight. The leaves need light, but sunlight will turn it into an oven and cook the leaves on your cuttings. Easy way to start is to just put them in pots...use pencils or dowel rods around the side to hold the plastic bag off the cuttings. Tie the bag over the pot and watch to make sure there is condensation on the inside of the bag. Use damp, not soggy, rooting medium. A good potting soil mixed 50% with perlite. Don't pack it down...just enough to hold the cutting upright. I like to moisten mine in a large pan rather than drenching it in the pot...that's just too wet.

im using a 10 galon plastic zip lock bag over a pot and already had 4 leaves and it is 5 inches tall. how long should I keep the bag over the plant?
