lilac suckers

Someone sent me three old fashioned lilac suckers in a trade. I put them in miracle grow potting soil and have been keeping them very moist, but the leaves still appear to be wilting. Is this okay? I really want these to do well. Is there anything else I should be doing?

By the way, I am keeping them in a sheltered area, so they aren't getting too much sun.

If they've got quite a few leaves, you might want to remove all of them except 2 or 3 at the tip. The leaves expire more than the rootless stumps can take up.
