    Hi Tony,
I was so surprised. The back of the flower is deep rose too. so cool, I have about 5 more to bloom, in tight bud, anxious to see what happens. Now if they go those colors is it a wrongly named plant? I would hate to lose pacific pearl, like it a lot, one you recommended. Or just a quirk.. ha. Oh do hope yours does this too..am delighted..I have a wierd. ha ha

ooooooh I have been waiting 5 months for plastic pink cutting to leaf out. I noticed today in shock I have a leaf growing straight up and long..am thrilled. I have never had a cutting grow, never seen them put out leaves. When will I know it has roots to water? or dare feed? I have another one starting to "move" yea..have 3 cuttings.

Karen, That is cool looking. In ( Growing Plumerias In Hawai'i) Jim Little cover this. " In some cases, deformed, spotted, or mosaic flowers are not a mutant, fungus, virus, or anomly, but are the result of mite or thrips that have penetrated the flower. The corolla tube causing it to abort sort of developing into a normal flower. The petals of the flower fuse together and cause a color adnormality. Other complications can accur when the flowers are effected by fungi in the petals. Many of these adnormalities are here today and gone tomorrow. They do not repeat themselves."

    Hi Don,
Mosaic, thats a good name for the colors..so pretty. so not buggy, don't see anything, will look for thrip, have too many wasps, they seem to clean the plants, interesting

..Oh well if I get just one flower like that, will enjoy it, smells nice. I don't have any other inflo's/flowers that color, am enjoying it. I have 6 more buds on the plant that will eventually bloom, curious how they will look. One that is opening is very deep yellow with pink tips..NOrmally pure white, light yellow centers, with pink veining in the back of the flowers. thanks, appreciate the information.
    watch yours Tony!!!..what fun.

    Hi Freakforplumeria.
reallly maybe a color break, oh that is even more cool. I don't have many plants blooming, am new at this and learning. I am watching the other flowers opening, the new one came out white with yellow, so hope for more. Its a young plant that is growing so well.
Glad to hear on the c-stars that I might have the color breaks, will watch for them. I also have playful and cancun dreams. Playful is in major in and out of transplant shock.. moved it a couple weeks ago in the ground, leaves up, and down. Did give it b-1,seems to be constantly dry. Hope it makes it, now have one top leaf straight up and the rest all the way down. we are really hot in hundreds, today is in high 80's, will help..

    Hi Joanna,
My celidine has had some problems, been hot, lost a lot of lower leaves, today seems to be no more droppage and growing now top leaves, think will be ok. Have been in touch with Bill, he has been guiding me through the problems.

I have moved two plants forward from the west wall, playful and daisy are in the ground and have celedine in that area also in its pot, gets south and east sun and shade after 3. I am digging a large flower bed in that area, and when done will put in redwood chips to stop the weeds and then edging. Will eventually put in a couple more plants forward but too hot to move pacific pearl now. Its close to the west wall, but in full bloom, and my only plant that is putting out a side branch, don't want to stop that, will move if I see in trouble from the heat.

ARe yours still in the north shade? need to get them out in the sun. how are yours doing? yes, hope your pacific pearl has the color break too..great fun.

Karen - I agree with Freak4plumeria. Another one to keep an eye on is "Playful". Two years in a row this plumeria produced the color break for me.

    Karen,
I haven't moved my plumies since you came over. They are still north facing and LOVING it! They are growing like crazy, and my 4 ft. Hilo Beauty has a huge inflo that will be a mass of flowers when it blooms in a couple of weeks :) The plumies are in full sun for about 6-8 hours a day, and they are flourishing from it :) I just have to check the soil each day because it's been so hot out here...

    Hi Kasie,
oh really on playful, thats great so happy you had a color break, I didn't know that on playful..Playful was my first plant I bought in Feb. was a last year rooted plant. I was so afraid I would kill it, I later bought a small 1 gallon playful, I bought with inflos, wanted to see what the larger plant will look like..they were all diffrent shades of color, one white flower, one light pink, one deep reddish pink..is that normal, is that how yours were? Now they are med. pink with a reddish vertical stripe and yellow center. Is that correct? I also have one in the ground that is a 2 year old plant, has never bloomed, now somewhat daily transplant shock, dern it.

    Hi Joanna,
oooh, sorry did not realize you had that much sun, thats great. So happy to hear all your plants and your red one is doing so well, would love to see it.

I thought of you today. Do...you have any 1 gallon plants from Armstrong? If so May I strongly reccomend you put them into 5 gallon containers. Now.reason. I have two. I noticed playful in bloom, in one gallon not looking good. Packed down the soil to take out, it was so root bound tap root was circled..so that is now transplanted in a 5 gallon. Now the shocker.

I have a un-known my friend bought me at ARmstrong, either another playful or lavender dreams, tag was gone. I noticed it had not put out many new leaves..packed the soil down..It came out in a solid crusty sawdust type soil, hard as a rock!!!! was shocked, was watered! obviously going down the sides, never into the plant. I did not break it up in 5 gallon, will keep putting water to it to get it to go into the cactus mix. It would have died! I remember now that Armstrong told me that c-stars used lousy soil in their plants, needed to be transplanted to better soil..NOwwww Do you or anyone have a gallon plant from Armstrong or a c-star one, might consider transplants.

Now Cancun Dreams and pacific pearl came from Matthew , are taller varieties, his cuttings in different soil.

I have this plumeria for over 16 years now (20' tree) and depending on the heat and fertilzer, red streaks appear occasionally. It is not a color break but probably something in it's genetic background. I was laxed on fertilizing this year and didn't see the red streaking this year, but have tons of great smelling flowers. Hi Karen,
No, I wasn't able to get to Armstrongs before they sold out. So I don't have any plumies from them...The drainage is good on all of my plants, so I'm just going to leave them in their containers, and wait to transplant until next season. I want to store as much energy as possible before they go dormant:) Sorry to hear about your Celadine. She was such a pretty plant! At least you are talking to Bill and following his advise...He knows so much about plumeria, and I know that whatever he says, I would follow...Good luck on all your plants!!!

    Hi JOanna,
Oh no..Celidine is still a beautiful plant deep green leather type leaves, the biggest and prettiest one that I have. Its out of shock now, and is growing with gusto. I have at least 12 new leaves starting to grow tall from the top, in full bloom is doing good now.

Most of my plants are really growing well, except for a couple in the ground, have about 5 leaves now. ha They were heavily burned lost all their leaves in the 112 degrees heat we had, in full sun, are coming out of it, aztec gold and candy stripe.

Years later, I know. Haha! But this Plumeria has mosaic virus. You don’t want to sell a Plumeria with this virus, but it’s fine to keep for yourself. Most plumerians will throw out plants with virus’ as you can never get rid of the virus and the entire plant is infected. I agree though, that it’s a beautiful anomaly.

Oh wow, I have never seen mosaic virus do something so symmetric to flowers. Beautiful and unique for sure!

Are all color breaks in plumeria result of mosaic? I'm not sure I know enough about the virus but I know you can't get rid of it and can infect other plants through sharing water or soil or using unsterilized cutters.

I have seen a beautiful color break variety "Princess Victoria" at Upland I want but would not want to risk the chance of giving mosaic virus to my other plants.

I’m sure she is, with all the plumeria she could imagine! And that would make sense IF this was a cultivar with colors other than white and yellow. Colors don’t just appear in varieties without those colors already.
