air layering gone wrong?

two months ago i tried to air layer my rubber plant. i cut halfway through the stem, stuck a toothpick in to hold the cut open, dusted with rooting hormone, wrapped in spaghnum moss, and wrapped the whole thing with a ziplock back tied with twisty-ties. and... nothing.

so i took it apart, rewet the moss by boiling it, used more moss, and covered it in saran wrap tied with twistie ties. it looks moister now (the moss had dried out before). my question is: is it too late, or will the roots finally begin to form?

You will probably be successful if you watch the moisture and don't expect two months to be long enough. I prefer to wrap the moss with cling wrap and aluminum foil over that to conserve the moisture in the moss. Al

I have just airlayered my fiddle fig .she now looks great.
She has been repotted into a 6.5ltre pot and doing well.
All i did was to cut into her stem and put rooting gell on.
I then slit a plastic pint pot down the side made air holes around the bottom and put it around the plant and filled it with coir with a little perlite.covered the outside with foil.Just kept her moist and bingo after 19 days she was well away good luck.Lil
