My first seedpod

I was so happy to find this today :)

It is on this plant

I was so surprised that when I realized what it was, I actually took a step backwards...I thought it was another praying mantis at first glance, LOL

Here is why I thought it was a praying mantis

He either moved or I accidentally chopped off his head...ooops, LOL

    Hi Plumeriastix,

Congrats on the seed pod. I, too, got the surprise of my first seed pod this summer. I can't wait to plant the seeds! Too bad we have to wait so long.

    Good luck with yours,
    Ruthie

Congrats on your seed pod. I'm happy enough when I get blooms. I'd probably faint if I saw a seed pod. lol

Hi Jeri ,Dave here yea the same one who bought your Candy Stripe. Like to ask you whats the best way to harvest a seed pod ? I also have one on an unknown white/pink that looks like it's almost ripe. It's about 8" long dark brown in color and this week got a crack starting . I have heard you can cover them with woman's hosiery stocking ?? but never tried it.

Dave ~ This is my first seedpod, but you are correct. Either cut off the leg/foot of one of your wife's (?) pantyhose or go and get some cheap knee high stockings. Place this over the seed pod and attach it somehow so it can't blow away. It sounds as if you need to do this quickly because it's ready to open. HURRY... or, if it has already started cracking it might be safe to bring it in the house but I'm not sure. Congrats on the seeds, is it a named variety? How is your Candy Stripe? Mine have gotten so large it would cost a foryune to ship them. Am thinking about offering a delivery service in a 150 mile radius from me for 30.00. Only catch is you must buy at least two plants. What do you think, would anyone be interested? The 30 bucks is actually less than I could ship two plants for...

Karyn ~ I was ready to faint to, then I went running in the house but roommie wouldn't come and look, LOL...Dang roommates!!! I think mine had already been pollinated as here in the desert there isn't anything with a long enough snoot to get way down in there, ROFL. I've been meaning to try the pine needle method but I keep losing the ones that BF brings me from his house :)

Thanks for the information Jeri will do the panty hose net thing TODAY lol. That candy stripe doing fine, it's starting some new leaves. You must have a small car for $30.00 delivery , heck thats only 3/8 of a tank on my truck.

panty hose net....what next girdles....I am not an expert but some of the things people do....just let nature take its course....just do a daily look see and when the pod opens break it from the tree and do what you will with them but these are tree pods not fragile things....I've had lots of pods and who ever wants them can have them..but..sorry if I overstep but had to air my feelings...

Oorah, on a windy day here in so. ca. an open seedpod with nothing to catch the seeds is disastrous. We don't do it to protect them only to keep from losing the seeds to the wind.

Oh...ok.....never had that problem but I can see it happening but still....pantyhose...seems that it might prevent the pods from opening....

Dave - glad your CS is doing well. Mine are all loving the heat here, they are growing so quickly and the leaves are getting huge :) My car is small (Saturn) but large enough to bring 6 footers home from the nurseries, LOL!!!

Jeri - congratulations on your new seed pod. It's so much fun. I enjoy rooting plumerias, but growing seeds has got to be my favorite past time now.

Kasie - Since it's my first I am a little overprotective, LOL. I go out everyday and first thing I do is make sure it hasn't fallen off or something... :)

I put a hummingbird feeder up a few weeks ago. At first we just has a pair of them and then a third and fourth came along and they all started fighting. So off to get a second feeder...put that up and now we have 7 possibly eight and they are dive bombimg and flying like kamikazi's all through the plumies...they are cute as long as they don't knock my seedpod off, LOL

Congratulations on your seed pod Jerri. I still haven't gotten one. Oh well, can't have it all I suppose!

Oorah you'd crack up if you saw my fig trees. I have bits of netting and panty hose all over the tree to protect the fruit from the birds and squirrels. They just sit and wait for the figs to ripen and snatch them from under my nose!
