rooting easest with a 4" long lutting with heal, (remove lower leaves & flowers) wound cutting & apply 0.8% IBA (Rooting hormone) stick in well draned soil & mist. takies 70-100 days to root.

I don't have 0.8% IBA (Rooting hormone) or any money to get it. I'll just keep them in water and hope for the best.

i have rooted 300 butterfly bush's this yr .All it takes is some sand and rooting hormone and within 3 weeks they are ready to transplant into pots.
Keep sand moist and spray leaves 1 to 2 times a day.
I trim of all blooms and have a 90 to 100 % sucess rate.
Also have stuck broken branches in ground and had them come back following season.

I cut about 15 pieces from my large pink butterfly bush and put them in plain water in the kitchen window.
They've all rooted.
Now to plant, mulch and cross my fingers that they make it through the winter.

I just used rooting hormone and regular potting soil containing peat/perlite. I popped them into a plastic storage bag to maintain humidity, opening occasionally when condensation too much. They rooted fine with no loss of leaves or any other problems. Very easy.
