Here is a close-up of the peppers. They have lobes at their base, like bell peppers.

I am sure we solved this. We believe it is a mini-bell pepper. She saved some seeds from a store bought pepper and forgot she had one plant that survived.

I don't know if you know it or not but there are several Mini Bells out there.
One goes from Green to Yellow , another goes from green to yellow to orange and the last goes from green to yellow to orange to red.
They are actually different strains.
Each ripens to it's own color.
To me the pods are different too.
The one that ripens to red is more bell like , segmented and flatter bottomed.
I found out about the color thing when I grew some that stayed either yellow,orange or red and the plants looked pretty much the same but the pods were a little different.
With some research I found out about there being 3 different colored mini bells rather than the growers just picking the peppers at different stages of ripeness to get the colors they wanted to sell-packs with all 3 colors in them.
It seems most seed venders sell the red version but you can find some mini bells that the pack says ripens to yellow or orange,but they are harder to find.
