I'm really not sure, but I thought I'd get the ball rolling.

One of my good friends grows hydroponically, and he cuts the recommended dose (for containers)
to a 1/3 concentration for his hydroponic tank.

Depending upon your soil-less mix, and the frequency at which you water, you may wish to fertilize
a couple times a week with a diluted dose....or once a week at full strength.

I personally use Dyna Gro's Foliage Pro 9-3-6, full strength or more, once a week.

Hey Josh! Thanks for answering! By full strength, do you mean 1 full tsp/gal?

Exactly!
With my Citrus, I've gone as high as 1 Tablespoon even.
With peppers, I've never gone higher than 2 Teaspoons per gallon, though.

Josh

1 Tablespoon? What is the highest recomandation on the bottle? 1 tsp I thought? You went 3x the highest recommended rate??? wow! I even thought citrus were slow growing?

Citrus are heavy feeders, and when I consulted Al as to why my citrus weren't greening up
as they should, he advised me to go with the higher dosage. When attempting to put on massive
growth on certain trees for future bonsai stock, I've also gone with a high dose.

MG, you must remember that I'm using the Gritty Mix or a variation for my plants, so the
high dose isn't going to sit in the soil and lead to concentrated salt burn.

Josh

Yes very true greenman. I never knew citrus were heavy feeders. I always wanted to try citrus in containers even though I am in zone 5b I could bring it in every winter. Could I use the 5-1-1 for citrus? And what is a good dwarf type that will produce a lot. What kind of citrus are you growing? I want to try some kind of dwarf lime. I think you are right on about fertilizing. I like seeing my plants yellow to show they need N, then fertilize. Very smart to start at a low dose then see what works, even at your 3X dose it works!!! Which shows you can test the strength then see what works, and as you said you are using the gritty which you need to fertilize more, but results are much much higher!!

Thanks.

MG, 5-1-1 is an excellent choice for Citrus.
I am growing Moro Blood Orange, variegated Pink Eureka Lemon, Ponderosa Lemon, and Pomelo seedlings.

Sorry for the digression, Jonnie :-)

Hey man, I got what I needed. Ramble on :)
