Cutting 101...how do I do this

Hi,

I have an extremely basic question: How do I "do" cuttings? I've just read that Japanese Laurel (Aucuba japonica) is a great plant to grow from cuttings. I have a happy and huge Japanese Laurel in the yard and have a place that I'd like to grow more in.

I have no idea how to go about cutting:

What do I cut from the source plant?

How do I cut it? How many can I cut?

What do I do with the cutting to get it started as a new plant?

All help appreciated. Please assume I'm a moron. Thank you!

You'll find the information you need, Michael, in prior posts on this forum. You'll find plenty of excellent information and support if you use the search function (whether for all gardening forums of within this one directed to propagation; see the bottom of the Q/A topics here). There's also information on standard approaches if you search online.. I've found info associated with a university (often an extension service)to be clear and helpful.

Aucuba can be easier to root, etc, but (as I've had reinforced by so many in here :), all successful propagation requires some patience and attention to detail.

I expect you'll find your first attempt to propagate fun and rewarding. Best of luck!
