The cherry BEST propagated by grafting but...
use cuttings (3 nodes or eyes) of firm new growth... on cherry apply 0.8% IBA (rooting hormone) & cm apply 0.1% IBA. stick both in well drained soil & mist. Both take 21-100+ days to root.

I agree with georgez5il, may we call you George, that cherry is best propagated by grafting but....it is the time of the year for an interesting experiment. When I had a greenhouse and was doing propagation experiments I found easily propagated woody cuttings like Poplar species were best rooted, in my opinion, at mid-winter in the dark. Should I have wanted to try cherry I would have taken cuttings as George suggested now to mid-December and put them in clear rooting containers like plastic cups so I could easily check for roots and covered them with Glad Press and Seal and put them in the dark and checked for roots after several weeks or a few months.

I just raided a friend's garden (house is to be demolished) and took cuttings of a cherry willow and two kinds of camelias. I dipped cuttings in rooting hormone and stuck 'em in damp sand. What else do I need to do to assure they're gonna root? Cold frame?

My friend who owns the wholesale nursery told me that crepe myrtle roots best just before it sets buds. Usually around May, here in South Texas.

I am trying to start a weeping cherry tree from another weeping cherry tree. It was my mothers and would really like to have a piece of what was her tree. Can I clip a branch off or get a start from the roots? If so how?

My horse scratched his belly on a crepe myrtle in my yard and broke a large limb off (2-3" diameter) Is it possible to take a limb that size and get it to grow roots?

Large crApe myrtle cuttings can be rooted (at the proper time of year), but smaller cuttings would probably be easier, especially at this time of year. CrApes grow so quickly, that I don't see any real benefit in trying to root a larger cutting, especially since smaller cuttings will probably grow more quickly at first. If I were you, I'd take a normal sized softwood cutting from the tips of your broken branch. Try a few in case you don't get 100% take. Another thing to consider is whether the broken limb has dried out.
