Air layering for Japanese Persimmon?

I realize that persimmon propagation via stem cutting is almost impossible, but was wondering if air layering might work on kaki species? Unfortunately, they do not seem to send out root suckers like the native persimmons and so it seems like the air layering might be only other option - other than from seed.

If you want a kaki cultivar on kaki rootstock, why not just graft onto a seedling rootstock?

Well brandon7, the problem is that I don't have any kaki seedlings to graft onto (nor any seeds). However, what I do have is a nice 5 year old fuyu cultivar and another astringent oriental variety. Because I will probably be moving in a year, I thought I might attempt to clone these trees via air layering(??). Also, If anyone has any fairly fresh kaki seeds I would be interested (trade or SASE etc.).

I've never heard of air-layering D kaki. Most are grafted onto D virginiana rootstock which is available commercially. Why don't you ask in the Fruit and Orchards Forum to see if anyone there could offer any seeds or other help.
