I have a Twister mini climber that I have to plant. It has been soaking overnight. I prepared a 1/2 barrel planter which is really large! This rose will stay in a pot. I live in a cold region, so because the rose will be staying in the pot, do I plant the bud union deeper like when you plant bare-roots in the ground or do I plant the union higher? Like at the surface? The problem is that I can't move the container that it will be in. So it will be outside even over winter. Yikes!

If I pot in a smaller pot, then do the "pot within a pot thing" what size pot should I plant in? The rose I bought is from Pickering and it has some long, and big roots!

Anyone from a COLDER zone have experience with planting bare-roots in a pot?

Do I trim the roots or will this kill them? The roots are just so big, they may not fit in the smaller pots.
