I'm certain minis have been used as a hedge in front of flower/rose beds many times before.

Any favorites? Why? I suppose most minis would work well, although susceptibility to blackspot in my area would be a problem.

I'm thinking something that would stay relatively compact but sturdy would be good. I have a supermarket mini that is absolutely huge - we make jokes about it's being a "miniature" rose. Of course there's no telling what it is exactly, but it has wonderful color (anything from peachy pink to red with yellow depending on weather...I swear it changes all the time) and is perfect right where it is, thank goodness.
