What zone are you in?

All roses need a lot of water. Container roses need water daily through the summer. You will probably have to spray, but we need more information about your locale before we can answer specifically.

What size pot is it in now? If its in a 4" pot, you need to put it in a one gallon for now and then into a larger pot later. If its in a one gallon container, you need to move it to a 10 or 12" container and probably upsize that later on, depending on how large it gets in your area. In mine, it has grown to 4' x 4' at the end of the season, which I cut back to 2' x 2' at the appropriate pruning time.

I am in zone 7.... it is in a gallon container

I would move it to a larger pot. Anywhere from 10-16" in diameter, the largest size would probably keep the rose happy for some time to come.

I would start a regular fungicide spray program and spray for bugs only as needed.

Hot Tamale can take full sun in my desert zone 9 so you can position it anywhere it gets at least six hours of sun a day without worries.

You'll need to water it daily through summer and every couple of days the rest of the year. If winter protection is necessary, you'll have to ask someone else because I haven't the foggiest :)
