Red Cascade sizing boo boo ...help please

Dear garden folk

For some reason when I bought my Red Cascade I thought she was going to be a mini miniature and that she would cascade from her hanging pot. Whelll, she stopped producing buds so I looked her up and found that while she is very short she is very wide. Anyway, what do i do? I have no place in my garden at this time to put her. Can I keep her going in the hanging pot until I can put her in the ground in the fall? Should I expect her to stop blooming during this period?

Give the rose some time, it will cascade. Malcolm Manners has some really nice ones at FSU. She will get pretty tall, or if left to its own devises,usually, it will get pretty wide. All in all, it is up to you. I have never tried the rose in your zone. Just Florida , so I really can not be that much help. The rose is very easy to take cuttings from.

Hi Dale, I'm not sure if you're saying that the only place you have for red cascade is the pot she's in, or that you're not sure if it's a good place for this rose and you think it should be somewhere else.

My advice is leave it, and it'll be fine, even if it's not doing much now. As stated, it will cascade!! I think this is a rose that can have many uses. I have mine on the ground - not climbing -- in my rock garden, because I thought it would be nice to have it "cascade" over the rocks. It did absolutely nothing the first year, now doing great, and it's not too short for a hanging pot! I would keep yours in your hanging pot, and wait. It should be fine. Debbie

I'm not sure if she can cascade or even survive in her 12" hanging pot. Will her estimated width of 3' be translated into a cascade?

I have seen Red Cascade go more than 10 feet down / cascading.It will easily cover a trellis, so just equate that to growing down.
If you see roots coming out of the bottom of the pot, then it is rootbound. I would be worried about it being in a pot in the winter, not sure of how cold hardy it is?

It's one of those roses you can't kill. If you feed and water it it will grow well but it does take a couple of years to take off. It will do better in the ground but in a pot it should cascade well but don't expect it to do so in the first year. It needs water and organics and lots of food.

well she's in a pot and still alive. this year will be her second so i'll see what happens. I'll give her lots of food and pray for the best. Should I cut her back in the spring her back in the spring like my 'regular' roses?
