Sprouting - now what?

Hi everyone,

I'm being lazy, but only because I have to go away tomorrow for a business trip and will be gone all week, so I'm hoping to get some quick advice.

I've two flats planted indoors, with the clear lids on them. Everything has sprouted, but at different times, so some are further ahead then others. When should the lids come off? I was thinking of leaving them on while I'm gone to keep things moist (Steve will have enough to take care of while I'm gone). But will that be ok? If it matters there are various flowers, potatoes and tomatoes. (These are the seeds I collected from my Black tomato last year - so I'm thrilled and especially want these to survive.)

I have the flats in my office near the electric baseboard heat. I was thinking of turning that down a little too - would that be a good idea? The office has south and west facing windows. I have the trays on a card table below the west facing window.

On another note I have outdoor sprouts as well. Lettuce and spinach I sowed on 3/22 is up. I sowed some more lettuce and some carrots last weekend and onions and turnips today. The garden is, or rather was, looking so good. Until one of the dogs got in this afternoon and tramped though all the sown areas. I was close to tears. I think the sprouted stuff will come through, but he really tore up the newly seeded stuff, so that may be a loss for the most part. Ugh!

Alice
