Hi. I have a beautiful Baby Paradise from Star Roses and since it's in a container, am planning to put it in my garage over the winter. Am also planning to mound soil and mulch over the crown. This is the first year I've had it and sure hope it survives.

While a miniature rose can be brought through the winter indoors, it is a difficult process with no guarantee of success. You would probably do better allowing it to go dormant over the winter.

One approach is to put them in a garage or other unheated building for the winter. Put them in the darkest corner of the building and make sure they do get some water during the winter. If you wish to pile some mulch around the base, you can do so, but be sure you can still give them water from time to time.

Another approach is to bury the container in the garden so most of the plant shows above the ground level. Then pile mulch around the plant several inches deep. Be sure to check from time to time during the winter to make sure the mulch doesn't wash down off the plant. If it does, add more mulch. I make a ring of folded over newspaper, put it around the plant and staple the ends together, then fill that up with mulch. That avoids the washing down problem. This should bring your plant through the winter in good shape.
