Someone Please Stop Me...

Was looking over the NMSU Chili Institute list (a bad idea for me) and saw that they now have hot Halloween peppers. Looks like one of their variations on a chinese ornamental, except that these mature to bright orange and deep black peppers.

Halloween is my favorite holiday, had to have them.

Unfortunately, minimum order means I wound up with mulato seeds and christmas bell seeds as well.

I'm not going be able to see my back yard next year at this rate, someone stop me! =P

    Stop you?
    Why?

No such thing as too many pepper plants, just too little room to grow them in.

How big is your back yard.
You may be pepper impaired and not even know it...

There is probably some non chile plants (weeds)in there somewhere that you can get rid of anyway to make room for a couple more chile plants. :)

I agree with Smokemaster and want to say I am sure if you run out of room after clearing the weeds and non pepper plants, there is always room for containers somewhere.

I can't even stop myself.. Never grew the halloween peppers,
but they are pretty cool looking.

Yeah, I already have two potted bhuts and a couple of potted tomatoes lining my driveway =P

Before long your entire inside and outside of you house will be covered. Next thing you know you are growing them at your work and various friends and family's houses( or anyone that is willing). Yes indeed it is more addicting than morphine. ( not that I would know) :)

Ooh, do you think they'd last outside in zone 5 til Halloween? Might be an idea for some container porch plants next year...

Oh no, I'm catching it too ;-)!

(I only have 70 peppers incl bell in the garden but another 28 chiles in pots - and it's my first year growing chiles.)

    I'm hoping they will!

Actually, I plan on testing out my bonchi skills on my big bhut plant this winter, and if all goes well I'll be making a halloween bonsai out of these Halloween peppers. Already got a basic layout in my head.

Nice dark bonsai pot, some cool bones, make up some little tombstones, just make an awesome little halloween scene for the peppers.

Those bonchi are cute, might try that with some of my peppers this year since they're big and woody and I was going to try to overwinter some anyway.

Those purple-flowered (and podded) Brazilian rainbows look nice too...

Oh yeah, my big bhut's main trunk is a good two fingers in diameter now, it should make for a great looking bonchi. I hope...

Oh well, it'll either work or I'll kill it. Won't try until I've got all the peppers off it that I can get before the first freeze, so won't be a big loss if I do. I'll have plenty of seeds to replace it with.

Hmm growing at work now there's an idea.....

Heh, I did that this year. Had grow lights set up in the empty cube next to me. More than one person stopped with a totally serious deadpan "What are you growing?" in a "are you growing weed in the office?" tone.

Thats actually what killed my first round of bhuts this year. Had them at work under the lights from early sprouting and set them out for some early morning sun to start hardening them off, got busy, wasn't able to bring them in during the hot noon sun. Fried 'em to a crisp.
