Although I can't say for certain what it is, it does look to me like one of the heritage varieties from long ago, certainly worth holding onto.

I hope you will post this same question on the Antique Roses forum here on GardenWeb - there are more old rose experts checking there than on this board.

I'll put a link below to a list of rose gardening clubs that include several in your state. Much free advice is available there from your local rose aficionados.

Here is a link that might be useful: Colonial District rose gardening clubs

Greetings, Neighbor. I have a historic house in Stafford County, and I was just in your neck of the woods on Saturday ... heading to the old garden rose program at Monticello. I'll be happy to help you ID your old rose, either via email photos or in person ... I'm not an axe murderer, I promise. :)

Email me, and I'll see what I can do for you.

Looking forward to it!

That looks exactly like my Cecile Brunner rose blooms once they age a bit. Do you have any other pictures of buds, foliage, etc?

Someone else mentioned it might be a Cecile Brunner. Those are the only pictures I have at the moment, but I can take more. It's looking a little rough this spring--not sure if it's because of the hard winter we had or not. But, when the buds start to come out I'll take some more pictures. Thank you so much for your help!
