The distinctly serrated foliage, and especially the clear yellow coloring with slight orange blending in the first two photos, look very much like 'Sutter's Gold, Climbing' to me. The orange shading tends to be more pronounced under cool conditions. The 1950 timeframe also works for this climber.

In an 'ideal' climate, 'Sutter's Gold, Cl' has fairly good repeat; otherwise, it produces an impressive spring flush with very few (if any) blooms thereafter. Sometimes it surprizes with a secondary flush in the fall. Good fragrance, BTW.
