I don't think Grace Seward is the one. Rats!

What's hanging me up on this one is that most of the single whites I find say they're well-armed with thorns -- this one has sparce, though deadly, thorns. Some of the others indicate reddish or rusty new growth -- the new growth on this guy is just as green as grass. I'm hoping that the shape of the bud in the first photo may be a good clue. I figure the biggest clue is the fact that this is some sort of root stock. Growers don't use just any stock for their grafting, so someone somewhere should know what this is.

I wish I could remember exactly where I got this rose. I have kept really good records that past 3 years or so, but I can't for the life of me remember where this one came from. When I go over there this morning (we don't live there just yet -- long story) I'll hunt around the base and see if, by chance, I left the tag attached. It's a long shot, but it's worth the risk of a thorn or two to get closer to an identification.
