Having met the good doctor too many times before, at first I thought Dr. Huey was visiting you. :-)

But.....it's probably Gloire des Rosomanes (aka "Ragged Robin"), which was also used as a rootstock at one time. I don't know if it still is being used as a rootstock today; doubt it.

The leaves on the bottom ones look damaged. Could this account for the difference in color of the petals?
Does it have a strong fragrance? Golire des Rosomanes does but Dr Huey is very lightly scented if at all. (at least mine are)

lionheart - thanks for answering my posts and for the link. It sort of does look like that.

susaninthegarden - The scent is so faint that I can barely smell it. The leaves got burned when we had a heat wave.

It is coming from the base of a fairly new rose, Royal Wedding, that I got two years ago from J P Roses. Does anyone know the root stock they use? I don't know why this year it sent off shoots from the root unless the moles or gophers been chewing on it.

Can't say for sure Clare, but I have an Angel Face from JP that is now RIP and I let the rootstock take off last year. Dr. Huey what my JP is. I can share pix with you if you'd like to compare to what you have. Just let me know
