That's a beautiful rose. 'Flaming Sunset' is an old (1948) orange/orange blend, a sport of 'Macredy's Sunset'. Perhaps the tag belonged to a rose that used to be in the same spot!

When we first moved in, I removed a couple of roses with colours that didn't work for me, but nothing that would qualify as orange as far as I can recall. I do have a very vague memory of some thin stick of a rose between the red and the yellow...

Anyhow, any ideas what the yellow might be? Just curious!

It looks to me like a rose called 'Peaudouce' in the UK where you live (US name is 'Elina'). I saw that variety in an English garden and it was blooming its head off like the one in your picture. I have one here in California and it is a personal favorite.

Your rose does look like Elina.

FYI - There is a picture of Flaming Sunset in Botanica's roses, it has very soft orange tones with pink, sort of like the skin of a peach. Maybe it was moved to another spot in your garden? I hope you do still have it because HMF lists Flaming Sunset in one garden in Italy and it is not available at any vendor. Looks like it is now extinct or very near so.

I'll see if I can find that picture of Flaming Sunset, but I don't think we still have the rose. As I said, I removed a few that weren't performing well or that I found ugly (there was one pink and white striped one which was really offensive!) but I don't remember anything orange or even apricot at all. The only other rose in the same bed as Peaudouce/Elina is deep red.
