Another mash question

I was wondering if anyone has tried this with their mash? I have some oak chips that came from an oak wine barrell. You can add these when making wine to give it that oak barrell taste if you don't have the oak barrell to ferment in. Has anyone tried adding these chips or anything similiar to their mash? I know tabasco says they ferment their peppers in oak barrells.
