The flower and leaves look just like my Bishop's Crown. But not the fruits. Is that C. Baccatum ?

Interesting thing is when I read about baccatum, they seem to be a South American thing, but I guess that doesn't mean they could have made it to Western Africa.

They have a nice fruity taste, but not super hot.....I think my orange Hab is hotter....or at least the one pepper picked and eaten........thanks again---Bob

Excited to stumble upon this when I myself was trying to figure out what "piment" was, as I miss the cooking of Cameroon (studied there during college). I don't think it's C. baccatum (S. American mostly). I believe it is a Scotch Bonnett. I am so impressed that you don't find it very spicy...I both loved and hated it for its spice when I lived there. See the following links. Also--there's a great recipe for the classic tomato sauce using the peppers. I know a distant connection in PC Cameroon now; her name is Alizabeth.

No pepper is historically native to Africa: they were all imported from the New World. So the pepper could be baccatum. That said, I don't know of any African baccatums...

@ maspicante----sorry it has taken so long to get back to you....I am starting an addition to our cabin an have been working dusk till dawn.....exhausting for this OF. I too think it could be scotch bonnet, but not sure. Do ou remember some maturing to red and some to orange? One plant has all red, which at one point was orange, but the other has turned orange, but none on that one have turned red. I finally found an address to the Cameroon Dept of Agriculture that I want to write and ask if they can tell me for sure what they are. Do you think it would NEED to be in French? I do know someone who says they could probably get it close enough to be understood.....If I find anything, I'll post....and I will ask my friend if she knows Alzibeth---thanks---Bob

the orange ones are Ose-Nsukka or Cameroon pepper, a flavourfull hot pepper with nice aroma grown in eastern Nigeria & Cameroon. The dried form is used in spice miixes and BBQ rubs. C. chinense
