It could be a newer rose called "French Perfume," an old favorite called "Double Delight" or something else I'm not familiar with!

I don't think either Love & Peace or french perfume are hardy in zone 5. However, Peace, hot tamale, man 8/00, and glowing amber are. My guess would be either peace or hot tamale. usually peace doesnt' get quite that dark on the edges, but i have seen it get that dark before. Use the same link in the other posts. Just when you do your search you might want to click hardy or very hardy in the growth section of the advanced search. Clicking zone 5 doesn't bring up everything that grows zone 5 and below, just where the hardiest line is zone 5.

'Love and Peace' was my first thought when I looked at the picture. I don't think it is white enough in the center for 'Double Delight'

I hadn t checked here in months so didn t see all your replies...thanks so much!!

I ve looked at all the pics of the roses you suggested...to me it looks the most like love and peace or double delight..

I shall check it out when spring comes...hopefully I ll get up the courage to go ask for a cutting of it!! (And hopefully he will know its name!)I shall update this post when I find out and if)!
