Cayenne Pepper First-Timer . . . need advice!

Hello all,

I am a 22-year old living in an apartment during college. To re-create the home feeling (my mom has a veggie garden in the backyard), I have started growing a cayenne pepper plant in a 7-inch diameter, 7-inch deep pot by my window. I recently noticed that it has its first pepper! The pepper is a lovely green color and is about 1.33 inches in length. My father is a plant pathologist at Texas A&M - College Station and told me that because of the lack of sunlight and pollination it would never produce fruit, so I gave up on it until I saw the pepper. Now that it has happened, I am very confused as to what I need to do to help it along. I'm keeping it well-watered and am trying to at least keep a lamp on it during the day (because of my window placement, it only gets about 3-5 hours of direct sunlight a day). I'm wondering if keeping my window open helped with pollination? Either way, I would like some advice has to how to produce decent peppers indoors. I know it can be done!

Thanks,

Kerri
