I just had to pick myself back up off the floor from falling when I saw these pictures!!! Holy Smokes Hoov! There can be no such thing as OD-ing on Sombreuil. When it blooms it's like heaven has descended to earth to give us a wink. Heaven Sugar, heaven. Give Hoover a big kiss between the eyes for me and tell that pupster to get better!

WOW!!!!! if I had a house like that,with a rose growing all over it like that,i would think I done died and went to heaven.Thats simply gorgeous.i didn't know that rose would grow like that.Its like the energizer bunny,it keeps going and going and going.Wondeful photo,Love the cleamatis,too.They are really pretty mixed in with that rose.Thanks for sharing some of that beauty with us.

Does Hoover have Addisons? Poor old guy -- though he looks pretty cheerful. And who wouldn't with that gorgeous house to look at. Boy I do miss that spectacular old Mediterranean architecture -- it's NOT a major theme up here. Of course the flowers are pretty too. :)

How did I miss these. Hoov has the best garden and beautiful home. If you want to hear a story about hard work to get a garden going, and see the results of hard work, let her tell you about her garden. It looks so pristine, but she went through a lot to get it this beautiful. No easy chore.

I'd like a pic of you on a ladder deadheading any one of those!! LOL* I hope you have excellent insurance and you aren't clumsy! I've never asked, is this rose fragrant?
To have this twining all over your trellis' and your balconies like that near your windows, I sure hope it is.
Holy cow, that's gorgeous. Just how long did it take to grow like that? Was that your master plan or you discovered that and the rest were planted on purpose?

I kind of grew up on ladders, so I'm very used to them. It took me over an hour to deadhead that big one using a ladder, a pole pruner, and a fiskars pruner. Sombreuil is fragrant, but a it's tea-type of fragrance that some noses cannot detect. I got the best fragrance at night, going out the front door you got a blast of fragrance, it was really wonderful, and worth the deadheading. The big one is 6 years old and the small one is 5 years old. The small one gets pruned much harder because it gets hammered by the Santa Ana winds. The big one is protected by the house.

Today there's only about a dozen flowers, but new growth is starting, so soon there will be more. :)

My favorite climbing rose. You've captured her essence beautifully. How lovely it is to see your pooch enjoying the rosy scene. The pic of the clematis PERLE D'AZUR was the perfect finish to a glorious display.

AWESOME!!!! I have 2 tiny tiny baby sombreuil's from Chamblees. I have both of them on one side of the arbor right now but if they grow anything like yours I suppose I will need to move them!! Just gorgeous! I love all the ironwork too. So so pretty. April

Inspiring, literally. Your sombreuil on the trellis over your door - after seeing another pic you posted of it a while back, I bought a trellis and am attempting to train a climber in a similar way. I love the informal, graceful look of that rose at your entrance.

I was just looking at sombreuil (looks like a Houzz favorite) and came across your post. I'd love to see any updates!!
