Ugly bathroom needs makeover!!

I'll be replacing countertops, floor tile, removing wall paper and painting walls, painting cabinets, removing existing plastic boards in shower and tiling. I'd like to use neutral tan colors for permanent items and maybe green/blue walls, white shower curtain, chrome fixtures. Any input?

Since you are painting your countertops, the first thing I would do is go look for a beautiful granite countertop and choose the color of the cabinets after. The reason is for a bathroom a lot of shops will sell you a leftover from a kitchen job and that will save money. I would contact more than one because some of the shops I contacted would not bother with "just a bathroom" and prices for installation will vary. Granite just makes a bathroom look sooo much better. Once you find the granite then I would select a complimentary color for the cabinets. I really like black cabinets, white or dark brown personally. Be sure when you do choose a piece of granite to get a sample because I had one crumble in my hand - most granite is very durable. Another thing, You might also want to look for new accessories before you decide on paint colors because I got some great towels that I love, love that would not have gone with just any color.

One thing to consider is the new cabinets in the bathrooms are higher so you might want to consider replacing your existing ones if possible. Depending on your housing market it may enhance the sell of your house if you ever need to do so.

My other suggestion is NOT to use a clear shower door. They look great in photos but are a big pain. You have to use a squeegee every time to prevent water spots and after 2 years no product removes the water spots, we need to replace. And I am going to replace with frosted.

Have fun! In other words, it is frequently a good idea to do a little at a time before you make a definite color selection.

I agree with Carolina Photos To Go LLC. Generally, we tell clients to choose their cabinet first & then their granite, but, when one is dealing with a bathroom vanity, picking the stone first is rather helpful. Most stone galleries have a wide range of remnant pieces which one can purchase for a discounted price; however, pickings can be slim based on the size of the vanity. In your case, you will need a long slab to accomodate two sinks, so, even if you cannot find a remnant that you like, most fabricators will cut into a full slab for a job that size. Also, try to take home a sample of your selection so that you can then choose a matching cabinet color. After you choose a stone, everything will fall into place.

Sounds lovely! Here is an example of the color scheme I think might reflect the look you're going for.

What a great idea Darzy. I will mention to my husband; we have an older cabinet in one of our BR and my husband is 6'2"

Thanks to all so far for great ideas. I didn't even think about the counter height but I bet that would be a big difference. What is the "new" standard for height?
