Is this normal? Maybe.

I grew my seedling at the same time as other varieties (1 fish was a hybrid and 1 fish was the real version) and the hybrid grew twice as fast as the original. When compared to other chili seedling that were started at the same time, it was way behind in growth and in production too. As a adult, it has only now produced 2 pods and it is already time to pull it for winter. The others had already produced and some have even gone into second rounds.

Based on what I have seen, I am going to say these need a longer growing season than other species of chili's. Others here may have had a different experience, but this was mine.

That was not my experience. Here is my seedlings from last March after six weeks since planting. My fish peppers are at least average or a little ahead of average. The three fish pepper plants are circled in yellow below.

Thanks, Bruce. Yeah, mine are just slightly larger than that (6 weeks tomorrow), but all the other peppers are huge in comparison. Giant Marconi is already starting to bud.

As long as they are healthy, don't worry. It isn't like you will be having to worry about a short growing season come next fall.
