Choose the stone for the counter first. This is an investment piece and should be something you love! It would probably be best to stay away from anything too close to your wood tones since there is a lot of wood, but otherwise it's really a matter of your personal preference. I think soapstone counters with a farmhouse sink would be a good option.

If you want something in a similar color family to your current laminate, try Verde Labrador, Verde Peacock, Verde Butterfly, or Costa Esmerelda granite. Rainforest Green marble would be alot of fun, too. If you want something different, Black Pearl, Sapphire Brown, or Antique Brown granite would be good options for you.
