4-5 month old cutting - overwinter?

Hello-

I successfully was able to get a single rose cutting to root and put out nice new growth this summer. Yeah me! It was fun a I had a sense of accomplishment, like I'm the rose whisperer or something.

I don't want to lose it this winter. Should I leave this in a pot outside overwinter, where temps could potentially fall below freezing? Should I put it in the ground now? Keep it inside? I hate to have done all this work only to lose it. All advice/experience welcome!

Do not bring it inside! Roses hate being indoors and it will probably die. It's better off outside. I would suggest sinking the pot into the ground for winter. That will protect the root ball which is the most important part. I've even sunk them totally in the ground, canes and all. Mark the spot well so you can find it easily in the spring.

Thank you! But I am wondering why bury the pot with it? What additional benefit do you get by burying the pot versus transplanting in the ground?
