Two ways to go.

One, put them on a shelf in an unheated garage and water monthly. Drying out is one of the major causes for roses dying over winter. Don't forget to water them.

Two, sink the pots into the ground and bury in mulch. Sinking them will help insulate the root ball so that, hopefully, if the tops die back the roots will survive.

Either way will still be risky depending on how cold our winter is but they are your two best bets.

in MI ... with pots in winter do NOT water with a watering can ... anywhere in the great white north ... actually ....

either use a snowball ... or an ice cube or two ...

else you will end up with too much water ...

dormant plants dont need water ... but you cant let the media wick dry the roots ... so just a LITTLE water is all that is needed ...

and that info is for any dormant potted plant ... not rose specific in any sense ...

but the bigger question is.... what is your media??? ..
