I'm getting tired of this post sitting at the top of the que. . . its in the way. Perhaps you've noticed, I learned how to post pictures.

Hi. During the summer in hot weather, I find my Sans here
in Florida do well being treated like any other tropical,
copious water once it dries out down to a depth of an inch or 2 in a big pot. I think many people drastically underwater their Sans during the summer months, especially
those in southern tier states where it is consistently hot
most every day. Watering is not near the delicate
task in summer with Sans, as it is during the winter. I
think the dilute fertilizer at every watering is a good
thing, but I don't limit pots to a certain amount of water, I water til it runs out of the holes in the bottom of the pot. Of course, stick to what works for you, but you might take a couple of plants of the same kind in the same light, and water one copiously when it's time, the other with the
limited amount you've been using, just to experiment. They
like bright shade, perhaps full sun only in the early morning hours.

Amazing the things I finally read, on a day off! Russ, I agree with you totally about the watering. I water a LOT in the summer, even Sans. I also drown some cactus that way, but hey, Life is Learning! And some of the cactus grow for the first time in years with that water. I actually am using a water stick that has a mist option. So, I feel like I am watering alot, doing something, without drowning everything to death.

SS, I find that my thicker leaves sans can take full sun down here. But remember, our sun is not strong enough to grow oranges, too many cloudy days, but IS strong enough to grow lemons. I guess they are talking about the June Gloom and May Gray phenominum. I actually learned this from our DownTown Museum docent who was doing a 'grove' tour showing fourth graders where all the lemon groves were.

Right now, I have even some trifaciatas out in full sun. Some are on second shelves, so I confess they are getting some sun releaf. If you have duplicate plants, you can try a small experiment with one in sun, one in shade... Be sure to let us know what you find out!
