Going to Prague . . .

I know this is an odd question, but we are vacationing in Germany and the Czech Republic in late July - early August. I haven't heard mention of any German salvias, but there certainly are a lot from Eastern Europe, and I am wondering if there is anywhere in or around Prague where I could obtain seeds. Or will this be absolutely the wrong time of year, etc.? Someone posted seed lists a while back that I believe were from sources in Prague.

Unable to advise about Salvias in Germany and Prague, but nevertheless, I have to say that Prague is one of the world's most beautiful cities. It may be somewhat crowded with tourists that time of the year....watch your pockets, as there is a lot of petty crime....also avoid the rip-off taxis, which you should not need, as the centre is walkable. But it is by no means a dangerous place, just use common sense. Stock up with Bohemian Crystal...awesome!

Yes, indeed! I have been to Prague three times already. We love it! We have some crystal but always get more. You are right it is so awesome. We walk or use the metro - after the first trip, I felt very comfortable in Prague. We plan to visit some outlying areas this time - I got to plan the trip and we are doing the "Castle Road" in Germany and into the Czech Republic. We don't keep anything in our pockets - use the around-the-neck wallets for the most part.

We did a family trip a couple of years ago and my youngest is going with us for this trip. He is finishing his second year of German (so we had to go to Germany) and he specifically requested that we go back to Prague. How could we refuse?

My husband is going to London with a group of (university)students in a couple of weeks without me. I think that is the reason he let me plan the Germany-Czech Republic trip.

I know someone posted about a man in Prague who did excursions to collect seeds, and it sounded like he sold them worldwide. I know we are going to be there at the wrong time, but I am still going to investigate as well as one can without speaking Czech. Some of these great salvias have to be from the Czech Republic or somewhere nearby.

Becky, have you ever been to the Prague Botanical Garden? I think they have a few seed collectors there. There are 8 Salvias on that list, too (scroll down to Lamiaceae).

I have never been, but I'm so excited for you! :)

Those may be the same people who were listed in the previous post. Thanks for the links. I have not been to the Prague Botanical Garden, but I will go this time! Even if my husband and son don't want to go along! Hopefully there will be English subtitles so I will know what I am looking at!

One of the great things about botanical names, they're the same everywhere. Even in the beautiful Thai language, labels had botanical names.
