Yes, you can trim the leaves with anything sharp. It will leave a brown, and in my opinion, an unsightly scar. If you have many leaves, I would rather cut selected leaves at the base. Also, try turning your plant 180 degrees every week if its near a window, and cut back on water by 50%.

Thank you for the advice. I don't know why I didn't think of just cutting off some of the longer leaves. I'm more used to plants that you can trim back a little. So is that what you do with these kinds of plants to keep them from getting too tall? Just cut down some of the taller leaves every now and then?

Do cut the damaged leaves when necessary to keep the best look. After I have a few cut leaves in one pot,I prefer to remove the plants from the pot and peel off the ugly leaf at its' base. Wait a couple of days to let the area dry out before repotting. This gives it all a brand new look.

I hope you don't mind if I add a suggestion, I would also try giving it more light gradually. Put a chopstick into the soil and make sure it has dried out some, before watering it again, this plants thrive on abuse. It will depend on how much humidity you have, also how warm it is and how fast your soil drains. Norma
