Southeast Coastal Gardening

Speciman plant - not common

I have a new corner of the house where I would like to plant a nice tree/shrub that will be a speciman. I was thinking along the lines of Chamaecyparis obtusa or pisifera for an evergreen or some sort of Dogwood if a deciduous. The corner is SW with full sun almost all day.

Any ideas?

How about a Mary Nell or Nellie Stevens Holly? They make a very nice anchor at the corner of a home. they grow fast and really keep a lovely conical form.

The Dogwoods are prone to a type of fungal infection that is very hard to treat...

I'm growing several obtusa. Love 'em! Cripsii, Filicoides(green), nana gracilis.
