Leaf cuttings and 1 pup
My Dwarf Jade Marginated Sans is really growing, so I thought it would be a good time to take a pup and some leaf cuttings (I want to try to get a Dwarf Jade--solid green.)
There were three pups...one nearly as tall as the mother plant, one less than half that size, and one tiny one. I took the medium pup out. In accordance with the guidelines is Hermine Stover's Sansevieria Book, I wrapped a little of the substrate around the roots, and then covered it all with plastic wrap, allowing the cut part of the rhizome access to the air to permit the formation of a callus. I will similarly allow the leaf cuttings to dry a bit before potting them.

I know what you mean, I had a hard time deciding to cut them at all. I love the variegation too, but I figured that having both would be nice. :) I did make sure to cut only leaves to the rear of the plant, so the change isn't really visible from the front...except for the removal of the pup.Hermine,
Thank you very much for the idea! I love your book, so informative and entertaining. You mention that leaf cuttings are best from fairly young leaves...I don't really know how old these leaves are, they are exterior leaves from the plant, which I bought back in October...could they be too old?I potted up the leaf cuttings and the pup in cactus mix and about 50% pumice. I did not water them in. They are now in a north window...I hope that's a good spot...good light but little to no direct sunlight.

The leaf cuttings haven't done a lot yet, but the pup is doing all right. It seems to have grown a bit.

Five months or so after taking leaf cuttings, here is what greeted me after an overnight stay out of town:
11 years ago- 10 years agoOver a year later, the variegated pup has grown quite a bit, and the non-variegated pups are not only larger...there are six of them!
