I have never seen it done that way, but that doesn't mean it can't. During the winter months that is the fastest way to kill these plants, water and cold temperatures. Why would you want to do that? I'm just a curious cat.

Dufflebag, I understand; my curious is the largest part of my anatomy. I have an diverse collection of clear glass vases and containers that I have filled with interesting small rocks and water, put different plant in them,and just like the looks of it in my writing retreat. This indoor garden is good company, and I like my company to have the richness and interest of variety.

I had several sansevieria cuttings that have been in sand for months, carefully removed one, found it had a good root system emerging, so I stuck it in for variety. Then it struck me that I should see if anyone else has done this. I don't want to kill it, but I do like to experiment.

I have had some of mine in water about 3 months just to see how they would do. I provide oxygen to the roots via an air stone. They are doing great & the roots look fine. I also add a water soluble nutrient for plant growth.

It will do just fine in water. I have one that I have had in a vase for about 5 months. It is very pretty, and the roots look great. All I do is change the water every now and then!

The first human job description was gardening, so I guess we are all gardeners by nature.

I've had lots of them in water for so long the roots have taken on the shape of their containers. More often than I care to admit, when I check them they are bone dry but you'd never know it to look at them. Doesn't seem to cause them any harm. I love these things. Sandy

PS: Don't know if it matters but I may have a different kind than yours. Mine are all tall and straplike.
