The regular forms of Salvia mexicana tend to have dark purple flowers and dark calyxes. Lollie Jackson, La Placita, Puerto de la Zorra, and Of the Night belong in this group. Ocampo is a giant form. Limelight and its giant cousin Tula have lighter flowers (approximately cobalt blue - blue-purple) and lime-chartreuse calyxes. Elise is a sport of Tula with light lavender flowers. Compton's Form is a deep purple one that blooms later, is shorter, and has smaller leaves.

Kelsi is an irregularly variegated form where the leaf shape is distorted by the variegation.

Salvia mexicana minor has the same habit of the above, but has half-sized medium blue-purple flowers. Snowflake is a white flowered form.

There is supposedly a really huge form S. mexicana major from Oaxaca, with deep purple flowers. Most of these forms are good seed producers.

I am interested in this issue since I have handed off to Art cuttings from my two mexican salvias that I have had for 10 years. They both have lime green calyxes. maybe not as yellow as some pictures I have seen , with cobalt blue with a titty tad of blue purple., The only difference is one has leaves with a slightly lighter shade of green. The leaves on the lighter one is closer to the value of the calyxes.The calyxes do not stand out as they do in this picture below. Here is a picture of the darker onleafed one that i found on the web. Judging from the web, there are more people than me that are confused about this issue.
