My S. lyrata always looks ratty, too. I'm too lazy to try moving it to make it look/grow better.

I saw the prettiest L. lyrata for sale at the Quail Botanical Gardens outside of San Diego..... of course, they were still in pots! ;^)

I've planted one in a raised bed in between pavers and it seems to be doing well.

It's basically a weed with purplish leaves, not far on the ornamental scale from purple-leaf plantain. It will tend to look ratty at worst, mildly ornamental at best. That's its nature.
