Pruning Salvia

I have the bright red Salvia in my flowerbed... and NO gardening experience! The flowerbed is direct sunlight... and in Texas with very high temps! We have some snapdragons and daylilllies mixed in as well. The Salvia is getting very tall and the lower flowers are either dying or maybe they are just bleached from the sun? Do I need to prune these back? and HOW do I do that? I'm garden-challenged, help!!
