Evelyn, Did you find the seeds? My neighbor has an awesome bear breeches that I would like to harvest seeds from but of course I am not sure where the seed is.

I'm keeping an eye on what I think is the seed. Once the flower is spent the hooded part is still attached. If you look under that hood you will find a green ball which I think is the seed. I hope so cause I can't seem to find anything about what it's supposed to look like.

I have tried to find out myself as this is the first year I have had this plant.All I have really found out is that the seed is large.
I would also like to know what kind I have as research tells me that these are late bloomers and mine is flowering now.Any ideas?

This web site has a good pic of the seed capsules. They look like large green pistachios nestled in the leaves next to the stem. The description says the seed pods explode and throw the seeds up to 30+ feet away from the plant -- guess you need to be careful about getting too close!

Thank you so much for that site. I had no idea that those seed pods would explode like that. Mine are still green but it looks like I'll have to put some nose mittens on them to catch those seeds.....lol

Thank you so much for that info. I have both Acanthus but the one setting seed is my spinosus. The seed is still green. I'll keep checking on it.
