It should in your climate. The runners are underground and should survive any normal winter weather in Z8. The plants also self sow very well.

I've never tried to cut mine back, but why not. The stuff grows so fast that it would probably be back in bloom before October. If you do cut it back please let us know what happens.

This plant must have jumped out of a 1950s Japanese Monster Movie. This year I have it two different gardens. In my home garden it leans against on 7 foot rudbeckia herbshonne and on two other sides there are stakes and wires to around four feet. In another garden it leans against another monster, Indigo Spires. I'm no expert with this plant since I've only been growing it for two years, but my general rule is monsters should be planted next to other monsters or at least have some kind of fence to make them better neighbors.

I cut mine back every summer..... at least when I find a place with enough moisture. LOL It gets ratty-looking by Aug.

Last year I grew the bog sage and was very disappointed at how unruly it was. This spring it came back and I dug it up and put it in a pot. It needed watering often, so I ended up sitting the pot in a tray of water and left it there. Now it is 6ft tall and very well behaved and about to flower. It seems the wetter the soil, the better behaved it is.
