I was given what I hope is the real S. evansiana last year and it over-wintered well outside. Three weeks ago, large flower buds appeared, looking different from other Chinese species, which was quite exciting. Then they were eaten by earwigs!

I humbly apologize, I obviously suffer from CCS (confused cerebral syndrome) brought about by a passion for salvias. The pictures referenced above are not S. evansiana but are S. hians. So sorry for the confusion.

As I said before, the buds were eaten by earwigs so I never saw the flowers! Whatever the pictures are, they are not Salvia hians! There is so much hybridisation amongst the Chinese Salvias, it is very difficult to know which is the real species.
