That sounds great, Norma. I have only had Sans set fruit one time, a year or so ago. This year I have had no flowers. I will have to try your tip of shaking the flowers to pollinate the plants next year.
The perfume of the flowers is stronger in the evening, don't you think?

I watered a sansevieria once when it was in flower and I never saw blooms collapse so fast. Is this a no-no? Also, do Sans usually or always bloom in fall/winter? I've always seen them flower then, the few that have bloomed for me. Are there other basic rules to observe for Sansevierias when they're in flower?

Melissa, I have not had that problem when I watered them. Maybe there is something else wrong.
As to the blooming, mine seem to mostly bloom in the summer or early fall, but I have had one bloom in the early winter. That was a plant that spent the summer outside.

Melissa this is why I report my flowering time, and they only have the flowers at night, dying the next morning and new ones opening at night again. The are probably naturally pollinated at night by moths, so that is what I do with a brush or my hands at night. I put the ripe seeds down into the soil where they flowered, that is the way I know at least who is the mama. I am not thrilled with hybrids unless they are very unusual in form or color. Norma

I have a spoon leaf S. concinnaa flowering at this time, very short stem very few flowers per stem, and of course a very sweet perfum. Norma

That is great, Norma. Did any other Sans flower for you this year?

I finally have two coming up in one of my trifasciata pots, but that is the only one this year so far. Oh well.

I getting a few each month, some never flowered before. The ones I want to flower have not done so, I may try putting them outside this coming year. They are green house grown at this time. BRrrrrrr I'm cold. One is coming up at this time. I'll go out and look. One that may be a S.stukyii X 'Lillian True' the plant looks like neither parent. The flower is not impressive and nothing like S. stukyii The other one I will need to look at in the morning. Species seem to flower different times of the year. All open at night, but a little by little, they only stay open one night, close, than another bunch opens until that flower stalk is done. I have berries (fruit seeds) that have not rippend yet. I had blooms in the spring this year. I think they are all off though, these are ones that went through Hurricane Ike and were under water for 24-48 hours. Last year none bloomed. All are planted in the ground.

Elsie, did you know that we have a special forum dealing with Sansevieria, don't get discouraged, they are very hard to identify. Order from mail order, it's your very best bet, the pricing is right and the ID is more dependable. Norma
