You could try it with Salvias rather than saliva!

There's a previous discussion of prorogation from cuttings at the link below. The techniques are similar for many other plants and there are a number of techniques that will increase the chance that your cuttings will root and grow a new plant.

Because I'm warm weather like you are, we have a very long potential cutting season, but for perennial sages, I only do it in April. I then give the cuttings 6-8 weeks to root, transplant the rooted cuttings into potting soil, nurse the new plants through the hot summer and then plant them in my garden in fall.

I just root mine in the spring outdoors by dipping them in rooting hormone and sticking them in a sterile mix. Nothing fancy. Some salvias need to be warm to root others don't care, Salvia regla is real slow to root from hard old wood cuttings . they like to root from new growth. Others could care less. I just keep doing it till it works in the spring. S. hotlips isn't picky. They root in the cool spring and later. greggiis aren't picky either, nor are S. involcrata and the Mex. Salvias. They do rot fairly easily. and they dry up fairly easily. I use three nodes and strip most of the leaves off, leaving the top two.
